State of Decay is a story of environmental transformation, revealing the ingenuity, adaptability, perseverance, and collectivism found within the survivors. Each survivor starts with the same four core skills. Their fifth skill is unique, and this point of difference is what makes them most valuable to their community.

The world of State of Decay is brutal, and choices have enduring consequences, including the permanent death of characters. But despite its dystopian setting, State of Decay is optimistic. The struggle to survive is an expression of hope, belonging, purpose, and love—timeless human ideals.

STATE OF DECAY: INITIAL RELEASE
State of Decay established the IP as an open-world zombie survival game that combines accessible action, community & resource management, base building, and a survival sim with permanent consequences. State of Decay surpassed half a million paid downloads in its first week of release on Xbox Live Arcade.

State of Decay DLC: Breakdown
State of Decay’s first DLC, Breakdown, was a new game mode that introduced new weapons, new characters, and a new difficulty multiplier that got tougher the further players went. Breakdown afforded the players a new level of decision making, that in turn allowed them to create their own unique campaigns with endless playability.

State of Decay DLC: LIFELINE
The second DLC for State of Decay, Lifeline, followed a squad of soldiers returning to the overrun city for one last mission. Players were able to explore new strategies for evacuating survivors and defending their bases.

State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition
Remastered in 1080p, YOSE was an updated version of State of Decay that gave players new content, and significant improvements to lighting, textures, and combat mechanics. New missions, weapons, and challenges pulled players even deeper into the post-outbreak world.

State of Decay 2: INITIAL RELEASE
A true sequel that took everything fans loved from the first State of Decay and created a more dangerous and unpredictable world that allows players to engage with one another in co-op multiplayer to survive. State of Decay 2 is the ultimate zombie survival fantasy, where it’s up to you to decide how your community will survive in an open, post-apocalyptic world.

State of Decay 2 DLC: INDEPENDENCE PACK
The Independence Pack — the first post-launch content release for State of Decay 2 — allowed players to take on zombie hordes with style, grace, and colorful gunpowder, of course. The pack unlocked an array of fiery new versions of vehicles, weapons, and gear for their communities, as well as a new Fireworks Crafting Station.

State of Decay 2 DLC: DAYBREAK
The replayable co-op “zombie siege” experience of Daybreak was a brand-new game mode for State of Decay 2. Players and up to three teammates could take up the role of highly-skilled Red Talon soldiers with access to new high-end weapons. To make it to daybreak, players had to fight off waves of zombies and new freaks that got more numerous and difficult to defeat.

State of Decay 2 DLC: HEARTLAND
An exciting story-based experience, Heartland blended the nostalgia of the original setting of State of Decay with new features, challenges, and bespoke characters. Players could immerse themselves in the story-driven narrative, set slightly in the future from the main campaign, while playing as characters who are each searching for a familiar face from the original State of Decay.

State of Decay 2: JUGGERNAUT EDITION
Juggernaut Edition provided players with the highest quality and most expansive State of Decay experience in a single title. Players got to explore a brand-new open-world map: a rugged logging town named Providence Ridge. Featuring a completely rebuilt post-tutorial experience, a new category of heavy melee weapons, a wide range of graphical improvements, and an improved control scheme.

2018-2024
State of Decay 2: CONTINUOUS UPDATES
There were nearly 40 content updates to State of Decay 2 after its initial release in 2018. Ranging from small bug fixes to content drops to accessibility improvements to fully-fledged new features (Difficulty Sliders, Heart Attack, Curveballs, to name a few). We take pride in our commitment to delivering a better State of Decay experience for our players with each release, whether large or small.
